We are seeking a Ground Segment Lead System Engineer to join our Service team at ESTEC, supporting the Swiss ALPSTAR project as part of the European Resilience from Space initiative.
About the client and location
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) based in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. As ESA’s largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Preparing the Ground Segment Statement of Work (SOW) for Phase B and the Proof of Concept.
- Interacting with the Ground Segment Prime to monitor procurement activities and track project progress.
- Preparing the procedure for the GS PDR.
- Leading the Ground Segment System Requirements Review (GS SRR) and the Ground Segment Preliminary Design Review (GS PDR), including preparation of the GS SRR procedure.
- Conducting the TRB for the Ground Segment demonstration deployed on hardware.
- Supporting user consultations through the ALPSTAR User Forum.
- Liaising with the Security Officer on cyber‑security aspects of the Federation Layer, and coordinate with Mission Analysis and Operations teams.
- Providing regular reporting and participating in weekly team meetings.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in generating Ground Segment requirements during early project phases.
- Experience in dual‑use systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel for meetings.
- Eligibility for EU security clearance.
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
