I work as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Administrator in Starion’s Data Management department. No two days are the same in my job!
What’s your role?
I work as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Administrator in Starion’s Data Management department and am currently based in Barcelona, Spain. I have been working in Starion for 2.5 years, which has flown by!
What’s a typical day in your working life like?
Our department leads enterprise reporting, process automation and application services across the Group, working according to some key pillars, including:
- Be lean and efficient – Keep it simple! Process complexity should be low and added value high.
- Address cultural change – Ensure personal and business growth through improved processes and training.
- Ensure continuity of day-to-day operations – Implement new key processes without disrupting daily routines or core systems.
In my role as an ERP System Administrator, I help to increase productivity by improving the effectiveness of processes, reducing manual work as much as possible and saving resources in terms of time, people and money. To achieve this, our team is working to change and homogenise current processes, implement new ones, and improve and develop system solutions, taking a global perspective.
We work in close partnership with key departments including IT, Quality Assurance, Security, HR, Finance, Operations and Recruitment and I am constantly in touch with them to gather the necessary requirements for improving processes and making their work more efficient.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I’m currently involved in a variety of projects and initiatives. These include corporate software enhancements and automations, ERP system maintenance and hardening, resolution of functional tickets, and creation of user manuals and documentation.
In my job, no two days are the same! This is probably the aspect of my job that I enjoy the most.
What has been your most memorable career highlight?
For me, one of the most memorable moments in my career was the ERP version upgrade, where our whole team worked closely together and with other departments to meet the deadline on time. It was a very stressful period!
It’s also rewarding when we have improved ERP processes for other departments, such as HR or Finance, and our work has helped them to reduce the time spent on their daily tasks.
Above all, I believe my biggest achievement is when colleagues from my department or others show their appreciation for my work and support – that truly means a lot to me.
Do you have any tips for people trying to get jobs in your area of expertise?
I’d recommend developing a solid understanding of business processes and how they interact within an ERP system. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
Technical knowledge of ERP platforms, project management and reporting tools, such as Power BI and Excel, is highly valuable. Finally, good communication and collaboration skills make a big difference, since the role often involves working closely with multiple departments to improve processes.
How do you wind down?
After a working day, I like to unwind by staying active or spending time outdoors. I often go to the gym, go rollerblading or take a walk in the park to enjoy some fresh air and read. I also enjoy salsa dancing or simply relaxing and catching up with friends. These activities help me recharge and maintain a good balance between my work and personal life.
