Starion Luxembourg is looking for a Satellite Imagery Operator to join the Earth Observation segment of its Mission Control & Data Processing Centre.
In this role, you will support end‑to‑end satellite imagery operations, including request management, image production, validation, and secure distribution to end users. You will work closely with the Mission Operations Centre and be involved in both mission preparation and routine operational activities.
As part of the operations team, you will contribute to the 24/7 availability of the system and ensure the timely and accurate delivery of imagery products to governmental and commercial users.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a national Earth Observation mission within a modern operations environment in Luxembourg.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Participating in pre‑operational activities, including system commissioning, end‑to‑end qualification, and required training.
- Participating in mission operations across the lifecycle, managing image requests, prioritising daily activities with ground operators, ensuring secure imagery dissemination, maintaining imagery databases and ground systems, and developing ground operations procedures.
- Additional Ground Control Centre duties include acting as out‑of‑hours coordinator, assuming production responsibilities outside normal hours, and performing operational quality checks in support of image analysis activities.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Senior Technician with a Technical School diploma in Informatics, or a degree in Geomatics, Geography, or equivalent (or higher).
- Ability to operate within a complex IT environment, adhering to procedures while managing user/client interfaces, service requests, programming activities, and FTP‑based deliveries.
- Ideally, operational knowledge of ground segment and space system management procedures.
- Operational knowledge of working with operational customers.
- Excellent, positive team spirit with strong cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Highly motivated with a willingness to learn new skills.
- EU citizenship is a mandatory requirement.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Knowledge and hands‑on experience with Earth Observation systems.
- 2–3 years of experience working in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Knowledge and experience in imagery or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Knowledge of additional EU languages is an asset.
