Are you looking for a new opportunity to take your career to a higher orbit? To join an international group with a successful track record in Space Engineering? A job adapted to your career ambitions and in which you could have an impact for the years to come?

We are currently looking for a Systems Engineer to join our team at our premises in Windhof, Luxembourg.

You will be contributing to the end-to-end INT – UQKD System Architecture, ensuring that the design and engineering best practices are embedded in the implementation as the system evolves, while also contributing to the design and analysis of future architectural elements.

About the client and location

Starion Luxembourg provides full lifecycle engineering solutions, including, design, integration and operation, for complex programmes. We supply operations and ground system engineering services for missions including Earth observation, quantum communications, scientific, navigation and space exploration, helping both New Space and established organisations set up their operations infrastructure or introduce new ground segment technologies.

In partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), Starion Luxembourg is leading a consortium of key partners to develop and demonstrate a next-generation operational testbed targeting end-to-end quantum-safe communications. We work to provide operational solutions over fibre and satellite networks in existing national and international environments.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Contributing to the current INT-UQKD System Architecture: updating the design and aligning the documentation as the project evolves.
  • Supporting cross‑functional teams in achieving a shared system vision, including contributing to the development of Interface Control Documents and other system‑level documentation.
  • Maintaining a holistic view of the system and ensuring the successful integration of all subsystems.
  • Coordinating with partners and integrating space and ground segment subsystems.
  • Supporting local engineering project teams to ensure efficient progress and the delivery of a high‑quality system.
  • Providing best‑practice advice in Systems Design, Development, and Verification.
  • Providing guidance to technical teams contributing to related projects.

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology Systems (ITS) Engineering, Software Engineering or related field (such as Telecommunications or a relevant scientific domain).
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, preferably in an international environment.
  • Proven experience in Systems Engineering: for projects in the domain of telecom, aerospace or defence, with multiple interconnected systems, using different communication protocols, and under restrictive standards.
  • Systems Engineering documentation experience, including collaborating with technical teams to prepare and maintain specifications, design documents, validation materials, and other development life‑cycle documentation.
  • Experience leading teams: being able to coordinate between different external teams while distributing efficiently the work in the local team, ensuring the successful integration of the different subsystems.

The following skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience in the space domain, preferably with ESA projects, including satellite communications, ground stations, mission operations centre’s, link budgets and mission planning.
  • Experience with optical communications (fibre and particularly free space optical), including link budgets and simulation of links.
  • Experience with security assessment and/or secured operation of complex ITS system. Familiar with Secure Software development life cycle principles and practices would be appreciated.
  • Experience in project execution following international standards, such as space (ECSS, CCSDS, IDSIS), military (MIL-STD, NATO) or regulatory (ETSI, ITU, 3GPP) standards.
  • The candidate must either hold, or be willing to undergo, a NATO and/or EU security clearance procedure.

Why should you apply?

  • You will have the opportunity to work within leading space organisations across Europe.
  • We encourage everyone to think outside the box and to push the boundaries of traditional knowledge. This role is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking company and allows for a deeper understanding of the industry.
  • To be part of a company that values integrity, inspiration, care and collaboration.
  • Benefits include competitive remuneration packages; unique career opportunities, including working in other countries; access to training and development programmes; flexible relocation support.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to achieving diversity within the workforce and creating an inclusive working environment. We therefore welcome applications from all candidates, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, age, disability or other characteristics.

As part of our commitment to providing an inclusive and barrier-free recruitment process, we will provide reasonable adjustments and support to ensure neuro-diverse applicants or those with a disability or long-term condition can be their best during the recruitment process.
