- Starion Italia is currently completing the design, development and implementation of a dedicated Cyber Security Operations Center (C-SOC) that will provide the operational autonomy and infrastructure resilience for the Italian Space Agency (ASI).
- The C-SOC is scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2026.
In July 2025, Starion Italia successfully started the construction works associated with the Italian Space Agency’s (ASI) new Cyber Security Operations Center (C-SOC). ASI’s new C-SOC will be established across two locations in Matera and Rome, Italy.
This milestone signifies the grounding of the project’s initial approval phase, aligning with key systems design reviews. The project team is now entering a more complex stage, managing two parallel streams of activity: first, the coordination and integration of the cyber infrastructure, which involves a complex procurement process for both hardware and software; and the completion of the construction works, including electrical systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and the C-SOC rack containments, to enable the start of the physical development of the cyber infrastructure.
In April 2025, ASI assigned a Starion consortium the contract to design, develop and implement an innovative dedicated C-SOC that would guarantee the protection of the Agency’s space and digital infrastructures.
The construction works and completion of the buildings is scheduled to be finished in February 2026, when it will be reviewed by ASI for formal acceptance. The Starion consortium will then work to deploy the equipment and software into the final hosting infrastructure.
As the final steps near, Starion is proactively developing a representative “digital twin” to replicate the core functionalities of the final C-SOC. This approach, which has been developed in parallel with the construction works, will enable Starion to configure and validate all software components planned for the full-scale C-SOC. It will enable preliminary verification of various operational and integration procedures, including data pre-validation processes. The primary objective of this initiative is to identify and resolve potential issues prior to their incorporation into the final infrastructure. This approach will also facilitate staff training, the development of procedures and the familiarisation with potential operational issues in a controlled environment.
Stefano Tatoni, Managing Director for Starion Italia, said: “We are delighted to be entrusted with the design and development of ASI’s C-SOC. The project is governed by an immovable delivery schedule, but thanks to the relationship we have established with ASI and other suppliers, we will endeavour to meet the deadline of this strategically important project for the Italian institutional space sector.”
